(More customer reviews)I've had melanoma skin cancer diagnosed and surgically removed. Subsequently, I can no longer go out into the sun and get a real tan. I have very fair skin and live in Florida of all places. I'm very self conscious about the lightness of my skin so I needed help to make my skin look less ghostly.
This product was the perfect solution. It doesn't streak (if applied properly) and gives a natural subtle looking brownish tone to the skin (not orange at all!). The color gets deeper the more often it is used (as advertised). A bonus is that it moisturizes the skin remarkably well. LOL, In fact it does a better job than far more expensive lotions and potions that are designed for that purpose alone.
Some reviewers don't like the odor, I don't find it that offensive. Only thing though, make sure it is dried before putting clothing over it. It can get on them when wet, but this is only common sense. A little of this product goes a long way so it is a good bang for the buck as well.All in all, I highly recommend this product - 5 stars. I've purchased 8 more tubes just to show how much I really like it.

(More customer reviews)I've been using Banana Boat Deep Dark sunless tanning lotion for a couple years and I love it! I dislike sprays because they get all over the bathroom floor and don't seem to "show up" as well.
The trick is to exfoliate thoroughly beforehand and then use rubber gloves to apply so as not to stain hands. Massage it in well and it will not streak. At the end, remove gloves and apply a dollop of lotion to the back of hands and then rub them together (back-to-back.)
I like to apply one coat at night, then one in the morning, then a final one the next night. Lasts about a week. You really need to exfoliate each week--a bit of work but worth it. Use exfoliation gloves/sugar rubs/loofas,etc. You will reap the benefits of silky smooth skin too!
I have naturally light skin (Scotch/Irish) and I use the deep/dark level because medium/light seems too light.
Great product, and I think better than the more expensive brands.

(More customer reviews)I've tried about 5 different tanning lotions. I just tried a foaming product from neutrogena last night and it dries really quickly and doesnt feel oily at all. I love that about it, BUT the color isnt realistic enough. the color of this banana boat tanning lotion is by far the best. it looks great and it always looks like a tan - not orange at all - the medium color product banana boat sells is a little orangey (well its a word now!!) so I stick to the deep dark. the only drawback is that I feel a gooey with the banana boat all over my body but I still think its the best I have tried and keep going back to it. I'm getting a little concerned because it seems like its harder and harder to find in stores. now I can only find it online.
one tip: i sleep between towels the night I apply it so I dont get it all over my sheets, the next morning, I take a shower and bingo! instant where-did-YOU-go-on-vacation glow. : ) temporary relief to peoples' eyes from the corneal damage due to the reflection of light off my body (okay, not that bad but I go from pasty to a great skin color with this product). I would like to see this stuff come in a large pump bottle for easier application and volume savings though.

(More customer reviews)For the price, this is a pretty good deal. I don't like to tan, but if I use this product 2 days in a row, I get a nice subtle "glow". I am rather fair skinned, and I was happy that I didn't look orange, or just look like I had a completely fake tan. But I don't use it as a daily moisturizer- although the moisturizing part does an adequate job, plus it says that it firms; Although I am not sure how well that works. Either way, for the price, it is a good moisturizer and works better as a tanner than DOVE tanning moisturizer, which is the only thing I can compare it to. I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a slightly soft and tan kind of look.

(More customer reviews)I don't know why I give this product two stars. Perhaps out of some brand loyalty - I used it for so long before I knew I could do better and I love most Neutrogena products. Perhaps because I still think that using this sunless tanner is better than baking cancer onto your skin.
Anyway, as an instant bronzer, it gives a nice color and is easy to apply. It drys quickly on your skin so you can dress quickly, It also washes out of clothes w/o staining. The trouble is that if you are not careful around areas with tough skin (elbows, ankles...) it appears much darker and unnatural looking. I have also noticed that, after a day or two, it tends to fade elsewhere and stay behind in my pores/hair folicles (especially on arms and legs) leaving a dotted effect that is just plain weird. I have to really scrub in the shower to get rid of it.The biggest problem is that it doesn't stay on. It washes off as soon as you shower (or worse, jump in the pool!) - so don't use a light colored towel. Umm, just don't swim at all!! I have also noticed lovely dark brown sweat in the creases of my elbows when I work out. This loss of color is even after waiting the recommended hour (infact, even after waiting several hours). As a sunles tanner it just doesn't work. I have never noticed a tan develop, even after days of repeated application. It is a bargain tanner - so try it if you must - maybe it works differently on different types of skin. But IMO Loreal has some better products at about the same price.
